I really hate the way Windows Media Player (WMP) handles videos and audios. It does not come with inbuilt codecs to play all the formats,  it can be a major memory hog when playing large files and the user interface is ugly and bloated with useless features eg. Online Store? wtf?.

In a two part series (one for video players and the other for audio players), I will try and give you all the alternatives you can use instead of the bloat-ware we called WMP.

I have tried many video players over the years and here is my list of video players which you can use to replace WMP for all your video viewing greatness.

KMplayer

This is my favourite application for playing video files. Its made by an Korean company and recently brought by Pandora.tv. English version is available and works great. KMplayer comes with built in codecs which allows you to play pretty much all the video formats out there. KMplayer also has internal and external filters to let you change various settings in a video.

Out of all the video players in my five alternative list, KMplayer have the most intuitive user interface design. It use minimal system resources and it also handles subtitles with great flexibility.
