avg9

In a earlier post this month, I covered the release of the commercial version of AVG 9 and I said that the free version is in the works and will be released very soon. AVG now has finally made the free version available for download from their website (Link below).

AVG has made two different installers, a big install file and a web installer. The size of AVG 9 is rather big compared  to some of the antivirus software out in the market. Both version of the installer will set you back around 70 Mb of your monthly downloads.

AVG9

Coinciding with Microsoft’s Windows 7 release on the 22nd of October. Like all other big names in the anti-virus business, AVG has already released a new commercial version for Windows 7. The free version of AVG 9 has not yet being put up for download, rumour has it the free version is set to be released on the 15th of October.

I have not yet tried out AVG 9, but after trying out AVG 8 earlier this year I really hope that the dev team has came up with a better piece of software this time that is less memory intensive and doesn’t slow down the computer.

I wont post the changes for now, I’ll save it for my next review. But if you would like to check it out some of the new feature visit the AVG website.

It looks like I have being wrong in my last post about Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) about when the final version is going to get released. Apparently Microsoft is going to release the final version of Security Essentials later today. YES!! 29th  of September 09.

Like I said in my other post

Microsoft Security Essential received many positive wraps and rightly so with the simple UI, low memory/CPU usage and much better detection rate.

You should try it out if you haven’t, Microsoft got it right this time round.

I will post again when MSE does get released later today but most likely it will be from its homepage (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials).
