Numerous patches for various system vulnerabilities have being released by Microsoft and Adobe today. Users and system administrators are strongly encouraged to patch up their systems as some vulnerability may allow hackers to gain control over your computer.
Microsoft alone has released 13 patches for their operating system (including Windows 7) and Office suite. One the other hand, Adobe is releasing critical patches for its highly insecure Adobe Reader.
Like I said before all users and administrators are encouraged to update their windows system. Windows user can do this through the Microsoft Update or Automatic update, while Adobe Reader users can install their patches directly through the program.

Microsoft Security Essentials is an upcoming free antivirus developed by Microsoft which replaces both OneCare and Windows Defender. Microsoft is set to release the Security Essentials application on October 22 which to no surprise coincides with Window 7’s release date.
In the past couple months Microsoft conducted a closed beta with limited invites. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the invite and test it out on my desktop and I have to say Microsoft has got it right this time.
I have tried OneCare and Windows Defender in the past and the detection rate and the overall experience wasn’t so great. Microsoft Security Essential received many positive wraps and rightly so with the simple UI, low memory/CPU usage and much better detection rate.
So keep and eye out for Microsoft Security Essentials next month. If you want to be on the bleeding edge of it, you can still download the beta version from some popular download site around the web like softpedia.
